Mykonos, Greece
Among all the vacation destinations I've had the pleasure of visiting, Mykonos definitely holds a top spot on my list of favorites. From luxurious hotels and beach clubs to sunsets glistening on the water and a vibrant nightlife, this trip is perfect for solo travelers, groups, or couples. I visited the island in June 2024 and had the time of my life! Below, I’ve compiled a guide with everything I wish I had known ahead of time—from where to stay, the best time of year to visit, beaches and beach clubs, nightlife, shopping, and more.
Best Time To Visit
Mykonos, Greece, truly comes alive during the summer months, which is the peak time to visit the island. The ideal time to travel to Mykonos is from late spring (May) to early fall (October). You'll enjoy pleasant weather, though keep in mind that prices can be higher during these months. While you can visit Mykonos year-round, some hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions are only open during the warmer months. The sea may not be warm enough for swimming in early May or October, and many hotels close for the season outside of these months, so be sure to consider this when planning your trip.
Getting to Mykonos & Around While There
You can get to Mykonos either by plane or by taking the ferry. As I mentioned in my Santorini Blog, I loved my experience taking the ferry and will soon post a blog specifically about the ferry system in Greece. During our visit, my boyfriend and I rented a car to explore the island.
I highly recommend renting a car! However, opt for a small vehicle, as the roads are extremely narrow and challenging to navigate. I was a passenger princess, of course, but watching how people drove around curves made me nervous. Many roads have limited visibility, requiring you to drive slowly, especially if it's your first time on the island. Some curves do have mirrors to help drivers see oncoming traffic, but this is not always the case.
Where I Stayed & Would Recommend
Although there are a variety of hotels and Airbnb options in Mykonos, in this blog, I will focus solely on the hotel I personally stayed at: Amazon Mykonos Resort & Spa. Just take a moment to look at the pictures below. This hotel stands out to me because it's the only one I've stayed at that offers a black make-up rag! How smart is that, and why don’t all hotels offer it?
Amazon Mykonos Resort & Spa is a five-star hotel located in the Agios Ioannis Bay Area. The resort offers a range of rooms, suites, spa options, an on-site restaurant, and more. The hotel first opened its doors in 2021, so it is fairly new. Most suites feature a private infinity pool with a panoramic sea view. I must admit, although Santorini is known for having the best sunsets in Greece, Mykonos sunsets give that statement a run for its money.
