The Bahamas: A Sweet Escape

Nassau, Bahamas

The Bahamas consistently secures a spot in the top 10 of the "Best Places to Visit in the Caribbean" list by U.S. News. This stunning travel destination offers an array of activities catering to every visitor's preferences. In January 2023, I had the pleasure of revisiting the Bahamas (Nassau) for my birthday, marking my second trip to this destination. My initial encounter with the country occurred during a family cruise in my younger years, and this return visit surpassed all expectations.

In this travel guide, I share my comprehensive insights to ensure your trip becomes an unforgettable experience. Whether you are embarking on a solo adventure, traveling with a partner, accompanying your kids, or planning a family getaway, I wholeheartedly recommend the Bahamas as an ideal destination for all types of travelers.

Best Time to Visit: According to my reliable friend Google, the best time to visit the Bahamas is from mid-December to mid-April, marking the peak season. While the Bahamas has fantastic weather year-round, it's important to note that the rainy season typically occurs from June to November, a consideration as you plan your idyllic escape.

Getting To the Bahamas: For travelers originating from the United States, the most convenient and expedient mode of transportation is by air. Alternatively, you can reach the Bahamas by boat, and if you enjoy the maritime experience, taking a cruise to the Bahamas can be a delightful option. Situated just below Florida on the map, the Bahamas offers a relatively quick flight for U.S. travelers, with my journey from New Jersey taking less than 3.5 hours.

How Many Days Did I Stay? During my second visit, I spent 5 days and 4 nights in the Bahamas, providing ample time to explore the island. If you're seeking a quick getaway, a duration of 3 days and 2 nights can suffice. Notably, several cruise ships offer 4-day cruises to the Bahamas at reasonable prices.

Where I Stayed: My personal choice was the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, a spectacular hotel (check out the photos below). Built in 2015, this relatively new resort offers an abundance of activities, making it tempting to never leave the premises. Baha Mar resorts present three iconic oceanfront hotels to choose from: Rosewood, SLS, or the Grand Hyatt. With outstanding food options, unique experiences like Flamingos, various hotel activities, a superb spa, and a water park, staying here is a decision you won't regret.

Hotels I’d Recommend:

  • Grand Hyatt Baha Mar

  • SLS Baha Mar

  • Rosewood Baha Mar

  • Margaritaville Beach Resort Nassau

How much is a Trip to the Bahamas?

While I initially envisioned a quick and reasonably priced trip to the Bahamas, my experience proved otherwise. The hotel costs were relatively high, and it wasn't an all-inclusive package. On the positive side, this encouraged exploration of local food options, but on the downside, it might inconvenience those seeking an all-inclusive vacation. Prepare your wallets.

Explore Bahamas (Nassau)

The Bahamas brought out the inner child in me. A standout memory was the visit to the Baha Bay waterpark at Baha Mar Resorts—an absolute must if you're on the island. Another essential experience is exploring the Fish Fry, a vibrant strip offering some of the best and most authentic Bahamian cuisine. The options are abundant and delicious!

Other Things to Explore:

  • Baha Bay Waterpark

  • The Fish Fry

  • Pig Beach

  • Cable Beach

  • Nassau Straw Market

  • Queen’s Staircase

Places to Eat: I highly recommend the Fish Fry area, not just for its amazing food but also for its reasonable prices.

A few excellent dining options include:

  • The Bush Garden Seafood & Steakhouse

  • Tuga Supper Club

  • The New Duff

While your hotel might offer good dining choices, exploring local eateries is more budget-friendly. Immerse yourself in the world of Bahamian cuisine for an authentic experience.

Wishing you the most incredible trip if you decide to visit!
